Traditional Chinese Medicine & Martial Arts Injury Care

What Is Dit Da Medicine?

Dit Da Medicine is a traditional system of Chinese trauma and injury care historically practiced within the martial arts. Passed from teacher to student through generations, it focuses on injuries caused by impact, falls, repetitive training, and physical trauma. Treatment may incorporate acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, Dit Da Jow liniments, massage, and other traditional methods selected for the individual.

Traumatic Injury

Impact injuries, falls, bruising, sprains, strains, and other acute physical trauma. These types of injuries can result from a car accident or a fall or impact.

Martial Arts Injuries

Injuries related to striking, grappling, throwing, repetitive training, and physical conditioning.

Traditional Treatment

Acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, Dit Da Jow, Dit Da Gao, and other traditional methods selected according to the individual and the nature of the injury.

The Tradition of Teacher to Student

My study of Dit Da medicine grew directly out of my lifelong practice of traditional martial arts. Historically, these methods of injury care were often preserved within martial arts systems and passed personally from teacher to student. I was fortunate to receive this knowledge through my own teachers and continue to practice it with deep respect for the generations that preserved it.

Treatment at Dit Da Clinic

Treatment is individualized according to the nature of the injury, how it occurred, and how the body is responding. Rather than relying on a single method, a session may draw from several traditional approaches to support recovery, reduce discomfort, restore movement, and help the patient return to normal activity and training.

Acupuncture

Moxabustion

Chinese Herbs

Acupuncture is commonly used for musculoskeletal pain and injury, including low back and neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, headaches, muscle tension, sprains and strains, and other conditions affecting movement and function.

Tonestakyu is a specific type of Japanese Moxa used for musculoskeletal pain, chronic tension, fatigue, digestive complaints, and menstrual discomfort. This precise technique uses very small amounts of moxa applied to carefully selected acupuncture points.

Commonly used for digestive complaints, sleep difficulties, fatigue, menstrual and menopausal symptoms, headaches, respiratory complaints, and musculoskeletal pain. Herbal formulas are individualized according to each patient’s symptoms and constitution.

Traditional herbal liniments used externally for bruising, soreness, sprains, strains, and other impact or training-related injuries. Formulas are selected according to the type and stage of injury.

Traditional herbal salves and topical preparations used for bruising, sprains, strains, muscle and joint soreness, and other traumatic or training-related injuries. Unlike a liquid liniment, Gao remains on the area longer, allowing prolonged topical application.

Already have a Chinese herbal prescription from your acupuncturist or herbal practitioner? We can prepare and dispense your prescribed formula using our in-house Chinese herbal pharmacy. In this service, we are filling your practitioner’s prescription rather than diagnosing or creating a new herbal formula.

Traditional Medicine for the Martial Artist

Dit Da medicine developed alongside the martial arts because training inevitably brings injury. Striking, throwing, grappling, repetitive movement, and hard physical conditioning can produce everything from bruising and soreness to sprains, strains, joint pain, and more persistent injuries.

Having spent decades practicing and teaching martial arts, I understand these injuries not only as a practitioner of Chinese medicine, but also from the perspective of someone who trains. Treatment is selected with the goal of reducing pain, restoring movement, supporting recovery, and helping you return safely to the activities you love.
